Battlefield Guiding: how it works

Gather your group, and an appropriate sized vehicle in which I can join you, and I will plan and guide your visit to the First World War battlefields.

First, choose an area of the Western Front to explore, or if you have time see the whole area.

Then, if you wish, choose one or more of my specialist themes to focus your visit around.

Let me know if there are places and events of interest to you, if you would like to visits to any family graves or memorials (even if you don't currently know where they are), or if you are looking to align your visit with any particular commemorative events.

Where possible I advise you to include some walking in your visit. Once you get out of the car you will notice tiny increases in gradient (and so imagine its impact on soldiers advancing in the attack), as well as changes in the light as clouds drift across the sky, and bees buzzing between poppies. These are the moments that bring to life poems, photos, diaries, and maybe even your own family's history.

Battlefield guiding is charged at £800 per day (£750 per day for trips of 4 or more days). This includes itinerary planning in advance in liaison with you, and guiding throughout your visit.

You pay for your own accommodation, meals and transport. I can book these on your behalf on request, or suggest my favourite places.
