On this walk you'll see wondrous buildings like the Nicholas Hawksmoor gem, Christ Church, Spitalfields; the new model dwellings built for the poor of the area; and the exotic, Moorish arcades of Fashion Street. On the way we’ll encounter a host of figures including the writer Daniel Defoe, the brewer Benjamin Truman, and Anna Maria Garthwaite, a Lincolnshire vicar's daughter, who produced designs for the Huguenot silk weavers of Fournier Street and Spital Square, as well as those dedicated to improving the lives of the poor, such as Willam Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, and Samuel and Henrietta Barnett of the Toynbee House Settlement.
